Game over: These models will leave us in 2026

(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – Car manufacturers regularly update their models. However, there are also model series that are discontinued without a direct successor. Sometimes they are simply too old, the segment has shrunk too much, or sales were too poor. Economic considerations also play a role in determining which models can be dispensed with.

We have summarized which model series have been discontinued as of now (May 11, 2026). Among them are some well-known models. This overview is regularly updated.

Audi A1/Q2

A phased farewell for Audi’s entry-level models: A1 and Q2 are now officially history. It is not surprising that both are affected at the same time – plans for their discontinuation were announced years ago. In July 2021, the brand announced it would discontinue the small car after the current generation ended. In February 2022, the same statement followed for the small SUV.

Now Audi is finally ending both. Production of the A1 is ending at the Martorell plant in Spain. The small car has been built since 2010, the current generation since 2018; a total of 1,389,658 units were delivered. The Audi Q2 was launched in 2016. Neither will receive direct successors, but Audi plans to introduce the new A2 e-tron in 2026.

Audi A8

A beautiful luxury sedan is saying goodbye: The A8 can no longer be ordered in Germany. The order books were closed about two weeks ago. The last A8s could still be configured until February 18.

Regarding global availability, A8 spokesperson Marcel Bestle told us it depends on stock and other factors. Audi does not specify a production end date – but if the luxury sedan is no longer orderable in its home market, it is more a question of when than if. Speaking of “if”: Whether the upcoming Q9 will be an adequate replacement remains to be seen.

BMW Z4

Here too, the signs were clear: To mark the farewell of the Z4, BMW released a limited-time special model, the Z4 Final Edition. Orders were possible from the end of January 2026 for a limited period. Apparently, many roadster enthusiasts took the opportunity, as Z4 production ended only in May 2026. The car, internally called G29, was built by Magna-Steyr in Graz.

Ford Focus

Cynics joke that Ford Europe holds the masters of the model axe: Mondeo and Fiesta have long been gone, and at the end of last year, it was the Focus’s turn. In mid-November 2025, the last Focus, a white five-door, rolled off the Saarlouis assembly line. And in the future?

At Ford’s Q4 2025 analyst and investor conference, CEO Jim Farley said they have “exciting plans for Europe” related to passenger cars. As first reported by Ford Authority, Farley hinted that the company will “play very carefully in specific segments to our strengths.”

Ford Kuga

The third generation of the Kuga was introduced in April 2019, with a facelift in 2024. It is again identical to the North American Escape and, like the fourth generation Focus, is based on Ford’s C2 platform. However, the Focus has since been discontinued, as noted above. In the USA, Escape production ended at the end of 2025. Therefore, we would suspect that the Kuga does not have a very long future ahead.

Honda Civic Type R

Times are getting tougher for powerful combustion engines, and Honda knows this too. Customers felt this with the Civic Type R in the form of almost prohibitively high prices (almost 60,000 euros). With the “Ultimate Edition” limited to 40 units, Honda gave the legendary Civic Type R a fitting farewell in mid-2025. Series production in Japan is expected to end by the end of 2026, where a final edition is likely to be expected.

Hyundai i10

Since the end of 2019, Hyundai has offered the third generation of the i10 in Europe. Six years later, the 3.67-meter city car is discontinued. Production in Turkey ended at the end of 2025, Hyundai told us. There is no direct successor, but a similar segment has been served for over a year by the fully electric Inster. Interestingly, the i10’s sibling, the Kia Picanto, can still be bought new.

Jaguar F-Pace

The future of the Jaguar brand is fully electric. For this reason, all previous combustion engine model series have been removed from the program. Finally, at the end of 2025, it was the turn of the F-Pace, built since 2016.

Mazda MX-30 R-EV

With it, the Wankel engine returned to a production vehicle, but not as a direct drive: In the Mazda MX-30 R-EV, the 75 hp single-rotor unit served as a range extender. The fully electric MX-30 was already taken off the market in 2024, and sales of the Wankel version in Europe ended at the beginning of 2026. Only about 2,000 units found enthusiasts in Germany over two years.

Mercedes B-Class

Somewhat a shame: Since the launch of the first Mercedes B-Class, the small van has been especially popular with seniors. This is not meant negatively, as this clientele is quite affluent. Nevertheless, the current 247 series is nearing its end, and no direct successor is planned. The B-Class is no longer built at the Rastatt plant, and in Hungary, the curtain is expected to fall during the year. It is conceivable that certain elements of the B-Class will be found in the planned 2028 successor to the A-Class.

Mercedes T-Class/EQT

A Renault with a Mercedes star? That did not really work well with the X-Class either. Now it is also the high-roof combis based on the Renault Kangoo that are affected. In April 2025, it was announced that production of the Citan and T-Class would be discontinued in the second quarter of 2026.

Tesla Model S

A pioneer of electromobility is stepping down: At its launch in 2012, the Tesla Model S caused a sensation. Over 300 kilometers of range was a big deal back then. But 14 years later, the competition has caught up, and sales have recently been modest.

Elon Musk announced that production of the Tesla Model S and Model X will end by mid-2026. The background is an 11 percent decline in Tesla’s automotive revenues in 2025 compared to the previous year.

At the same time, Musk said that the Fremont plant will be converted for the production of the humanoid robot Tesla Optimus. On April 1, 2026, Musk also announced that Tesla had already stopped production of the Model S and Model X.

Toyota GR Supra

Given the end of production for the BMW Z4, the technically closely related Toyota GR Supra (A90) is unlikely to have a very long life either. Especially since it is also produced in Graz. On the market since 2019, the GR Supra is only available in Germany as a “Final Edition” with 441 hp for an incredible 142,800 euros.

Toyota GR86

The compact fun maker GR86 was always only available in very limited quantities in Germany. It is no longer found in the configurator. The second generation of the “Hachi-Roku” (Japanese for Eight-Six) has been on the market since 2021, but it is largely based on the predecessor GT86 from 2012. Or rather the Subaru BRZ, the sister model from the brand that also supplies the boxer engine under the hood.

At the end of the BRZ in Germany, the special Final Edition model was presented in June 2024. The end for the GR86 will probably come soon as well. But Toyota has already promised new sports cars. Maybe the Celica will return.

VW Touran

Since April 29, 2026, the VW Touran is history: On this day, the last unit rolled off the Wolfsburg plant. After more than eleven years of production, the second generation was also the oldest model in Volkswagen’s German lineup.

Between December 2002 and December 2025, a total of 1,070,558 Tourans were newly registered in Germany. The most successful year was 2004 with 95,408 units. Worldwide, around 2.3 million vehicles were produced, with annual production recently only about 20,000 units. Nevertheless, the Touran still had more than 14,000 new registrations in Germany in 2025, with peak times exceeding 52,000 vehicles per year. With the end of Touran production, Volkswagen now has no van in its model lineup.

VW T-Roc Cabriolet

The last open vehicle of the VW brand may continue to live until the end of 2027. Despite the already introduced T-Roc II on the market, the much-demanded T-Roc Cabriolet is still built at the Osnabrück plant. Whether VW will ever bring a convertible again remains uncertain. The future of the Osnabrück site is also still unclear. The signs there could point to armaments.
