This brings an eventful first race weekend to a close. At the moment, it looks very much like Aprilia is the new benchmark in MotoGP and Ducati is in a position of having to catch up. But how the balance of power actually turns out will only be shown in the next races.

The cards could be reshuffled as early as Brazil, as the track is new for everyone. MotoGP will celebrate its premiere there in three weeks. Until then, it’s always worth taking a look at our motorcycle section. There we will keep you up to date with the most important reactions to this weekend and all developments on the rider market.

The 2026 MotoGP start in Thailand attracted a record crowd to the Chang International Circuit: 56,854 spectators came on the pre-event day, 79,919 on Saturday, and a strong 91,455 fans on race Sunday. In total, 228,228 visitors flocked to the Grand Prix – more than ever before in Buriram.

By the way: With his eleventh podium finish in MotoGP, Pedro Acosta has moved into second place on the all-time list of riders with the most podiums without a win. Only Colin Edwards had more with twelve podiums. However, it is quite possible that Acosta will soon disappear from the list again, as his first victory should only be a matter of time.

Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia/1st): “Yesterday was a small mistake with big consequences. That’s why it was important to strike back today. My pace with the medium tire was good, we worked great all weekend. I knew I could be fast if I was in front. So I tried everything to get a good start. The bike was perfect, the guys did an incredible job. I want to thank them, and also all my friends at home who got up so early to see me – my mom: Ciao Mama, I love you.”

Pedro Acosta (KTM/2nd): “In any case, we have to be happy. The team is working super well. Considering how we started here last year – even scoring points was difficult – and this year we get two podiums in a row, then we can really be very satisfied.
Thanks to KTM and everyone in Mattighofen, who were surely cheering along early in the morning. Also thanks to everyone who supports me, because the start last year was not the dream one. But we persevered and achieved this.”

“Thanks to everyone at home, my close friends, also Miguel and Eva, who always give me a track to train on, my management group, my trainer Marc and my coach Carmelo, who is at the track all day. We did a good job.”

Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse-Aprilia/3rd): “It was quite difficult, especially in the last five or six laps. I tried to give my maximum, but I had completely destroyed the rear tire. Nevertheless, we have had a great start to the season. Today in the warm-up I felt really good again with the medium tire.

“The problem was that I tried to manage, but couldn’t finish the race the way I wanted. Anyway, we are on the podium, we are getting very important points. So let’s just enjoy the moment, stay relaxed and know that our potential is there. The team did a fantastic job together with Aprilia. So let’s keep it up, or if we can’t maintain that, then we’ll work on maintaining it.”

Di Giannantonio finishes the race in sixth and leads the second half of the top 10 ahead of Binder, Morbidelli, Bagnaia, and Marini. Bagnaia loses eighth place in the very last corner. The remaining points positions go to Marini, Zarco, Bastianini, Moreira, who shows a strong debut, Quartararo, and Rins. Vinales finishes 16th ahead of the Pramac duo with Razgatlioglu and Miller. The tail-ender is Pirro.

Bezzecchi makes people forget his crash in yesterday’s sprint and wins the first Grand Prix of the year in a confident manner. Acosta finishes second and maintains the championship lead. Fernandez saves third place to the finish line. Martin and Ogura complete the strong result for Aprilia in fourth and fifth places.

This also means: For the first time since Aragon 2021 (!) no Ducati rider made it onto the podium. The Italian manufacturer’s streak has broken.

What on earth is going on? Now Mir is also rolling to a stop. Apparently, the Honda rider also has a tire problem. This means a top-5 result is gone for him. The order three laps before the end: Bezzecchi, Acosta, Fernandez, Ogura, Di Giannantonio, Bagnaia, Binder, Marini, Zarco.

Shortly after Marc Marquez’s retirement, Alex Marquez crashes out of the race! Meanwhile, Acosta passes Fernandez and takes second place.

In fourth place just a moment ago and within striking distance of the podium, Marc Marquez suddenly goes off track and is almost thrown off the bike. A closer look shows: His rear tire has popped off the rim, the rim is bent.

This is a colossal tire failure. The Spaniard can count himself lucky that nothing more happened. However, his race is over.

Is Fernandez running out of tire towards the end? Or does he have problems with his shoulder after all? The fact is: The Trackhouse rider is losing a lot of time and will probably not be able to defend third place against Acosta.

Ogura is past Bagnaia and is now hunting for eighth place and Alex Marquez. Directly ahead, Mir attacks Diggia in the battle for sixth place and goes past.
