– Even if Max Verstappen hadn’t had to end the Monaco Grand Prix after just a few minutes, the Red Bull driver wouldn’t have jumped into his team’s pool.

In a social media video from the team, teammate Isack Hadjar jokes that he would jump naked into the pool if he won. But Verstappen, part of the racing team since 2016, doesn’t seem too thrilled about the water in the hospitality area.
“Last year I saw a guy there who took off his socks,” explains Verstappen. “And you know when you [take off your socks] and then some lint [sticks to you]? He dipped his feet with the lint into the water.”
Therefore, Verstappen concludes: “So, if you win, good luck. I’ll watch you, but I won’t jump into the water myself.”
Monaco has always been a very special place for Red Bull. Every year, a pool is present in the team’s motorhome, into which race winners like Mark Webber or Daniel Ricciardo have thrown themselves after their successes.

In addition, special actions such as the Star Wars livery in 2005, fitting for Episode III, or the Superman outfit in 2006 remain memorable. After the race, there were also fitting pool celebrations for the team’s first podium at the time.
So far, Verstappen has won two races in Monaco. In 2021 and 2023, the Red Bull driver stood at the top of the podium and also secured the world championship title in both seasons. In the junior categories, however, the endurance fan had no opportunity to experience the street circuit in the principality up close.
Furthermore, Verstappen is one of the clear proponents of the classic, as he emphasized during this year’s race weekend. Formula 1 will continue to host the iconic Grand Prix in Monaco until at least 2035.
