(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – Major car brands offer different models worldwide. For some, we wonder: Why does this car actually exist in Europe or Germany? For example, the Skoda Slavia, whose facelift was just presented in India.

The sedan with a separate trunk, developed specifically for the Indian market and produced locally, uses the local MQB-A0-IN platform and is one of the most successful models in its segment with nearly 80,000 units sold so far. The Slavia facelift brings fundamental design revisions, expanded powertrain options, and equipment details, some of which are offered for the first time in this vehicle class.
Alongside the SUV models Kushaq and the recently updated Kushaq, the 4.54-meter-long Slavia forms a central pillar of the model offensive under the motto “Made in India, for India.” Beyond the Indian home market, the Czech automaker exports the vehicle, reminiscent of a sedan Fabia, to growth regions such as Vietnam, the Middle East, and parts of Africa.
But not to Europe, especially since compact sedans hardly sell here. With the Rapid of the 2010s, we had our chance. It combined sedan looks with a large tailgate. Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, emphasizes the strategic relevance of the location and explains that India remains one of the most important global growth markets.

Historically, the Slavia continues a long tradition. It was introduced in early 2022 as the second local model on the Indian market after the Kushaq. The name creates a connection between India and the Czech Republic and recalls the company founders Laurin and Klement, who began producing bicycles under the brand name Slavia in 1896 in Mlada Boleslav. In India, the model currently complements the Octavia RS, while the Superb is announced for 2027.
Fresh lights and a Monte Carlo
Visually, the refreshed Slavia features newly designed LED headlights, revised LED taillights with dynamic wipe indicators, and newly designed alloy wheels. The interior has also been enhanced with new color schemes. At market launch, the sporty Monte Carlo trim is available, characterized by a two-tone paint job, distinctive black body accents, special lettering, and visual references to Skoda’s motorsport history.
Under the hood, the proven TSI engines remain in the lineup, known to us from the Fabia and Kamiq. For the 1.0 TSI with 115 hp, an eight-speed torque converter automatic is now available for the first time; alternatively, a six-speed manual transmission is still offered. The more powerful 1.5 TSI with 150 hp continues to be combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG) and additionally features disc brakes on the rear axle in the updated version.

Inside, a massage function for the rear seats debuts, also a first in this vehicle class. The technical equipment includes a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, a 360-degree camera, and Park Pilot with front sensors. The infotainment system with a 10.1-inch screen supports wireless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Artificial intelligence for accents
New is a digital voice assistant (“AI Companion”) based on Google’s Automotive AI Agent from Google Cloud. The system is specially tuned to Indian English accents and enables hands-free control of music, telephony, climate control, and other vehicle functions.
In terms of safety, the Slavia offers a high level. In the Global NCAP crash test, the model achieved five stars each for adult and child occupant protection. More than 25 active and passive safety features are standard, including six airbags. Equipment details such as a heated rear window wiper, rain sensor, automatic lights, and automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors assist the driver in difficult conditions.
Skoda Auto has been present in India since 2000 as the first brand of the Volkswagen Group. Since taking over group responsibility for the region in 2018, the range has been consistently expanded. Strong demand for the compact SUV Kushaq, introduced at the beginning of last year, helped Skoda nearly double its deliveries in 2025 compared to the previous year. Furthermore, India now serves the brand as a strategic hub for exports to the ASEAN region and the Middle East.
