(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – It won’t be long until Jaguar finally unveils its first electric car of the new era. But before the Type 01 is officially shown for the first time later this year, the teaser campaign continues – this time with a photoshoot designed to further fuel expectations.

The bulky camouflage is gone and has been replaced by a thinner wrap that gives a better impression of what to expect. Details like parking and windshield sensors as well as a long shark-fin antenna suggest that we are dealing with an almost production-ready prototype. Meanwhile: It is also bulky.
The biggest difference to the concept car is, of course, the switch to a more practical four-door body. Despite the strikingly long hood, the Type 01 has no combustion engine. Jaguar has already denied rumors that a range-extender variant is planned, where a gasoline engine would serve solely as a generator to charge the battery and not drive the wheels.
Hopefully, the imposing front end instead means a generously sized frunk. At the rear, the trunk appears surprisingly small – for a vehicle about 5.2 meters long. The side windows also seem rather small in proportion to the ample dimensions. For more everyday practicality with a low charge level, there are large flaps on both front fenders hiding the charging ports.
The Jaguar Type 01 comes without a rear window
The new images, taken on the streets of Monaco, confirm: The Type 01 has no rear window. Also missing is an upper front grille; instead, there is a lower air intake below the license plate. The slim LED light strips strongly resemble the minimalist look of the concept car, while the top view shows how pronounced the wheel arches are on both axles.
You can think what you want about Jaguar’s restart – the electric GT draws attention and will likely get even more once the sleek wrap disappears. Its flowing silhouette is reminiscent of the Cadillac Celestiq, also an extravagant ultra-luxury electric car. With a huge wheelbase of 3.2 meters and standard 23-inch wheels, the Type 01 will turn heads everywhere.

Besides the striking appearance, Jaguar’s first model after fully parting ways with the combustion engine is also supposed to impress dynamically. At least that’s what the Tata Motors-owned brand promises potential buyers: “an electric car that drives like no other.” A big part of this is three electric motors delivering a combined 987 hp (725 kW) and nearly instant torque of over 1,300 Nm.
100,000 Euro starting price
The Type 01 is expected to be officially shown in the coming months before deliveries start in 2027. Jaguar itself says: “Its expressive modernist design, pioneering technology, and intuitive driving dynamics will shape future Jaguar models. Great power reserves. Cultivated comfort. Two characters in one vehicle.”
With an expected starting price well above 100,000 euros, the Type 01 will have to live up to the hype. Jaguar’s strikingly staged electric car must not only look good. The market for high-priced electric cars remains challenging because wealthy buyers still prefer large-volume combustion engines with as many cylinders as possible.
Poaching Bentley customers will be a huge task – especially since the Crewe-based brand has announced it will keep combustion engines in its lineup beyond 2030. For Jaguar, it is now too late to go back to the years when it wanted to chase BMW: All hopes rest on the GT and further high-end models that are to follow on the same pure electric platform.
